A medium to full-bodied wine with a good length.
This well-structured wine is impressive in youth, but will age with grace and poise.
Recommended food pairings: This full-bodied wine is an ideal partner for a wide variety of robust winter dishes. It would be fabulous with such hearty dishes as osso bucco served with polenta, or a traditional cassoulet brimming with duck legs, spicy sausage, morsels of smoked ham and hearty haricot beans. It would also be simply sensational with red meat dishes of kangaroo or venison with garlic mash.
Growing Conditions: Malbec is a variety that originates in the south-west of France. Plantings of Malbec in Australia are quite small, and the variety is normally used, as in France, for blending purposes. The grapes used to make this wine were grown at our Heathcote vineyard in central Victoria.
Winemaker: Geoff Alexander
Winemaking notes: The fruit was harvested in late March at a baumé levels ranging from 13.1º – 13.6º. Following fermentation, the wine spent 12 months in older French oak barriques and puncheons. The wine was bottled with an alcohol of 12.5%, a pH of 3.42, and an acid level of 6.1g/l.
