This soft and juicy wine reveals delightful notes of red berry fruits, cherry and subtle pepper spice. Vibrant and textural it is best enjoyed young.
The 2018 Gamay is the third release of this variety for Brown Brothers and exciting addition to the Limited Release range of wines.
Recommended food pairings: The Gamay style is quite versatile when it comes to food. It is light enough to try with quail wrapped in prosciutto with stir-fried vegetables. Or try with a selection of cold meats, such as salami and aged Jamon.
Growing Conditions: The Gamay used to make this wine was grown exclusively at our Banksdale Vineyard at just under 500m above sea level in the upper reaches of the King Valley. The Gamay grape has been around for many years with references to it dating back to the late 1300s. It is thought to have been named after the town of Gamay in eastern France and is suited to mild growing conditions.
Winemaking notes: The wine was made in two separate parcels. 60% utilised the carbonic maceration technique to enhance the red berry aromas, while the balance was a traditional red wine ferment. To retain as much aromatic intensity in the wine the decision was made not to use any oak during the maturation process. The 2018 Gamay was bottled with an alcohol of 14%, a pH of 3.53 and an acid level of 5.3 g/l.
