Cellar Door Release Muscat successfully captures the essence of north-east Victoria’s famed fortified Muscats. Like all wood-matured fortified wines, it is a wine to drink and enjoy now. It has done all its improving and building of character in oak and will drink well over the next 3 to 5 years.
Recommended food pairings: The delicious, rich raisined flavours of this wine and long fresh finish, make it the perfect partner to desserts including a moist plum pudding, studded with dried fruits and served with either a caramel sauce or an intense brandy butter. It also makes a delightful accompaniment to cheese platters, especially mature blue styles served with a generous handful of freshly roasted walnuts and dried muscatels.
Growing Conditions: The Cellar Door Release Muscat is made from Brown Muscat or Muscat a Petits Grains grapes. The fruit was grown in Victoria.
Winemaker: Geoff Alexander
Winemaking notes: Once fortification had taken place and fermentation was completed, the wine spent varying amounts of time in older large wood barrels and various small wood barrels. The aging in old barrels adds to complexity and concentrating. The older barrels concentrate due to losses through evaporation. This release has an average age of over 20 years.
