At Brown Brothers Joel is responsible for the production and management of wines from vineyard through to bottle, ensuring compliance with company specifications and wine quality expectations. He is now directly responsible for leading and managing the Winemaking and Cellar teams, with an annual crush of approximately 15,000 tonnes from up to 40 different grape varieties.
In 2000, Joel successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science – Oenology degree at the University of Adelaide where he was awarded the R.H Martin Memorial Prize for excellence in sensory evaluation.
After graduating, Joel worked four vintages as a winemaker in the Adelaide Hills wine region prior to joining Brown Brothers in 2004. During his time at Brown Brothers Joel has been responsible for making a range of products, including the sparkling wines and the Patricia Shiraz. In 2007 he was promoted to the position of Senior Winemaker & Winery Manager and works with the winemaking team to continuously improve production methods and efficiencies. He is also tasked with conducting and reviewing trials to investigate alternative winemaking techniques and wine styles.
Joel has also judged in numerous wine shows around Australia and continues to be an active wine judge.
