Cynthia is the only daughter of John Graham and June Brown and is the first female born into the Brown family in 66 years.
Prior to joining the family business Cynthia spent five years working with BHP in Melbourne, Newcastle and Vietnam gaining extensive experience in many aspects of human resource management, including the Petroleum Division’s expatriate staffing program which encompassed employee transfers overseas and to Australia. Cynthia also worked with the IT Division where she was heavily involved in recruitment and the salary review process for over 1,000 staff.
Cynthia joined Brown Brothers at the beginning of 1996, working in the winery during vintage, gaining first-hand experience in the winemaking process. Following vintage she joined the Direct Marketing department working in Cellar Door and the Epicurean Centre with the intention of further developing her product knowledge and, of course, getting to know Brown Brothers’ customers.
Two years later, Cynthia was appointed to the position of Direct Marketing Manager, which included the responsibility for the development and management of the public facilities at Milawa. It is here that Brown Brothers strives to provide visitors with an idyllic getaway whether it be a tasting at Cellar Door, lunch in the Epicurean Centre or a picnic in the grounds. It is an extremely important role as the region is a magnet for tourists attracting over 100,000 visitors each year.
After involvement in an Internet pilot project, and a short secondment to the Brisbane office, Cynthia was appointed to the position of Employment Services Manager early in 2001. In this role she was responsible for recruitment and performance management across the company. The experience she gained as Direct Marketing Manager has honed her customer services skills, while the extensive experience gained whilst working with BHP and Club Med has given Cynthia excellent grounding in all aspects of human resources and relationships management.
She has a background in Human Resources Management having completed a Bachelor of Business at Monash University. Following this, Cynthia spent 12 months working in the human resource area for Club Med where she was responsible for a range of human resources and guest related activities.
In 2005, Cynthia resigned from her position at Brown Brothers, choosing to pursue other interests. She recently completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at La Trobe University, and is currently undertaking a PhD at the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Melbourne University.
