John's first task with Brown Brothers was to assist with the initiation and development of a formal Market Information System. With an increasingly competitive and changing market place, in an industry where a decision to 'plant more Dolcetto...' must be made at least six years before the wine may be poured, a sound knowledge of the market is critical.
In 1996, John moved to the winery to assist with vintage. His efforts were rewarded with a trophy awarded to one of the fortified wines he made.
After vintage, John became increasingly involved in the Business Planning function. His major focus was to develop the measurement of Key Performance Indicators to drive the company into the future.
In 1997 John accepted responsibility for Information Technology support. Since that time, Brown Brothers has been moving quickly to develop the infrastructure necessary to service its customers in the information age.
In 1998, John and his team introduced the network and email.
1999 saw the implementation of information systems capable of handling all the transactions from vineyard through to the customer. These systems have drastically increased the integrity of data reported and the ability to analyse business results. It increased the company's ability to move quickly and easily to implementation of the GST in 2000, new trading terms and pricing structure, EFT payments, new purchasing processes and much more.
2001 saw the introduction of Brown Brothers' Intranet site and remote access to the Milawa based systems for staff all around and the World.
Early in 2005 John elected to resign from his position within the company to pursue personal and business interests unrelated to Brown Brothers.
